CAT® Underground Mining Load Haul Dump (LHD) Loaders and CAT® Underground Mining Trucks serve distinct but complementary roles in underground mining operations. To maximise productivity, these CAT® Loaders and Mining Trucks can be managed so that they work together in perfect harmony to load and move more material.

The Key Differences

CAT® Underground Mining Load Haul Dump (LHD) Loaders

Primary Function:

These machines are primarily designed for loading, hauling, and dumping loose material. They scoop up the material from the mining face or stockpiles and transport it to a designated location within the mine.

Design and Structure:

They typically have a low-profile design to navigate the confined spaces of underground tunnels. They are equipped with a front-mounted bucket for loading material.

Operation:

They operate with an articulated chassis, allowing for excellent manoeuvrability in tight spaces. They perform short-haul operations, often transporting material to a nearby ore pass, crusher, or haul truck.

Versatility:

LHD Loaders can be used for various tasks beyond just hauling, including excavation, scaling, and mine development activities.

The CAT® Range of Underground Mining Load Haul Dump Loaders:

  • CAT® R1300G
  • CAT® R1600H
  • CAT® R1700
  • CAT® R2900 XE
  • CAT® R3000H

CAT® Underground Mining Trucks

Primary Function:

These vehicles are designed for transporting large quantities of mined material over longer distances within the mine. They are used to carry material from loading points (often from LHD Loaders) to dumping locations like ore passes, crushers, or surface areas.

Design and Structure:

They feature a robust truck bed for carrying material and are built to handle heavier loads compared to LHD Loaders. They have a higher profile and larger capacity compared to LHDs.

Operation:

Mining Trucks typically have a rigid frame and are designed for longer haul distances within the mine. They are not as manoeuvrable as LHD Loaders but are more efficient for transporting large volumes of material over a distance.

"We offer customers a full solution, from quoting to providing machines, parts, and ongoing aftermarket support," says Claire Pagnier, our Senior Manager and Equipment Finance Manager. "We also leverage Barloworld's internal teams to deliver technology solutions and support throughout the machine lifecycle – from sales to after-sales and technology integration."

This commitment to partnership means we tailor our offerings to your specific needs. From established mining houses to emerging contractors and startups, we have solutions for everyone. We offer rental solutions, a wide range of new and used machines, and flexible financing options through Cat Financial. Once you have the equipment you need, we can provide comprehensive service plans and maintenance plans.

Specialisation:

They are specifically designed for haulage tasks and are not used for loading or excavation. They rely on LHD Loaders or other loading equipment to fill their beds.
